TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee Suspended From Lok Sabha Over Remarks

Kolkata, July 22: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee was suspended from the Lok Sabha until the end of the ongoing Monsoon Session after allegations that he made inappropriate remarks against women Members of Parliament.

The action followed a complaint submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla by women MPs.

According to parliamentary proceedings, a dispute reportedly broke out involving Kalyan Banerjee and TMC MPs Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Shatabdi Roy, and Mitali Bag after the House was adjourned amid Opposition protests.

The women MPs later submitted a written complaint to the Lok Sabha Speaker, alleging that Banerjee used objectionable language during the altercation.

When the House reconvened, Presiding Officer Krishna Prasad Tenneti referred to the complaint, stating that the alleged remarks were inconsistent with the dignity of the House.

The Lok Sabha subsequently approved a motion to suspend Kalyan Banerjee until the conclusion of the current Monsoon Session.
