Trinamool ‘Pushpa’ (Jahangir Khan) Arrested At India-Nepal Border

India-Nepal Border/Hyderabad, June 8 (Maxim News): The 15-year-long rule of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal politics has come to an end. A sensational arrest has been registered just a month after the formation of the new government. In a lightning raid by the Bengal Special Task Force, a key leader of the Trinamool Congress and the party’s candidate in the last assembly elections, Pushpa, (Jahangir Khan) was arrested at the India-Nepal Border. The STF took this action after the Calcutta High Court refused to grant him anticipatory bail or extension of protection. The court recalled that five new police cases were registered against him after the election results were announced on May 4.

Jahangir Khan is a close friend of Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee. During the elections, there were allegations that Jahangir Khan’s community was creating panic in the Falta constituency under Diamond Harbour. Due to this, ‘encounter specialist’ IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma of the UP cadre was appointed as a special observer there. Sharma gave a serious warning to those who were disturbing the peace and order in the Falta area. In response, Jahangir Khan got angry with the dialogues of the Tollywood hit movie ‘Pushpa’. He challenged that he was the Pushparaj of this place and that he would not be reduced. Since then, he has been on the police radar with allegations of election rigging and threats.

In this sequence, polling was held in Falta constituency along with other constituencies on April 29. However, after allegations were made that BJP had taped the button on the EVMs, the Election Commission ordered repolling on May 21. In the meantime, the state results were announced on May 4. The BJP formed the government in Bengal under the leadership of Suvendu Adhikari. On May 19, just two days before the polling, Jahangir Khan gave an unexpected twist and announced that he was withdrawing from the contest for the development of Falta. Finally, BJP candidate Debangshu Panda won from Falta with a landslide majority of over one lakh votes.

Jahangir Khan, who withdrew from the contest at the last minute, received only less than 8,000 votes. This Trinamool leader, who spoke in a heated manner during the election, went underground after voting in Falta. He was finally caught by the Bengal police after trying to cross the border.
