TS to emerge self-reliant in fish production: Talasani

Fish Production | Animal Husbandry & Fisheries Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav today said all possible measures were being taken under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar to make Telangana State a self-reliance in fish production.

Addressing a workshop organised by the Fisheries department here on Friday, the Minister said the State government was spending crores of rupees to make fishermen self-reliant in the State. He said as Telangana was now importing fish seed from other States, the TRS government has focused on fish seed rearing and production for tapping the enormous fisheries potential in the State.

As part of its endeavour, the basic infrastructure has been developed at a cost of Rs 1.30 crore at 23 fish seed production centres across the State and about 2.5 crore fish have been reared during 2019-2020. The department has set a target of producing about five crore fish in 2020-2021.

Self-sufficiency in fish seed production is imperative to give a fillip to inland fisheries and boost income of fishermen, the Minister said.
