Hyderabad: A US strike hit a home hosting a wedding ceremony in southern Iran, killing at least four people, including a child, and injuring around 50 others, Iranian officials said.
The strike targeted a wedding gathering in the coastal village of Kohstak in Sirik County, Hormozgan province, according to Iranian state media and local officials.
Images from the site showed extensive damage at the venue following the attack. Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Hormozgan province, initially said two people were killed and several others were injured.
However, the provincial Red Crescent later raised the reported death toll to four, including a child, according to Iranian media outlet Tasnim.
Around 50 people were injured in the strike. Some victims were treated and discharged, while others were shifted to Minab Hospital for specialised medical care.
US-Iran Hostilities Resume After Month-Long Lull
The strike came as the US military launched a fresh wave of attacks on targets in Iran on Tuesday, ending a month-long pause in direct military action.
The US Central Command said its latest strikes targeted air defence sites, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities.
Washington said the attacks followed Iranian attempts to target commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US personnel stationed in the region.
Iran responded with missile and drone attacks. Iranian media reported that ballistic missiles were launched towards Jordan, where US forces are based. Jordan said the missiles were intercepted, while the United Arab Emirates reported intercepting an Iranian drone over its waters.
US President Donald Trump warned Iran against retaliation and said Tehran would face a stronger response if it carried out further attacks.
The renewed fighting has also intensified concerns over commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil transit route.
Iran has been working with Oman on a framework to manage shipping traffic through the strategic waterway. Meanwhile, Gulf countries have called for the strait to be reopened unconditionally.
