IIIT Hyderabad Launches Online Minor in Modern Machine Learning for UG Students Across India

Hyderabad: In a major step toward democratizing access to advanced technology education, the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH) has announced the launch of a fully online Minor Program in Modern Machine Learning. Offered through its Division of Flexible Learning and Outreach, the program is tailored for undergraduate students who wish to gain specialized expertise in one of the most in-demand areas of technology.

Slated to begin on August 25, 2025, this one-year, modular program is open to third-year or higher students pursuing degrees in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Technology. With a blend of live interactive sessions, hands-on labs, project-based learning, and expert mentorship from IIIT-H faculty, the program promises a robust academic experience while being flexible enough to run parallel to a student’s core degree.

“Machine Learning is revolutionizing every sector—from healthcare to finance to education. Our goal is to equip students with practical, real-world ML skills while offering academic flexibility,” said Prof. Venkatesh Choppella, Associate Dean, Division of Flexible Learning.

The program structure includes five terms:

1. Foundations of ML
2. Modern ML
3. Applied AI: Computer Vision
4. Applied AI: Natural Language Processing (NLP)
5. Capstone Project

Each term is credit-based, and students can earn individual course certificates or a Minor Certificate in Modern Machine Learning upon completion. Participating colleges may recognize this as a Minor Degree, depending on their academic policies.

“This initiative allows students to specialize in ML without disrupting their main degree track,” added Prof. Ramesh Loganathan, Head of Outreach.
