- IMD forecasts widespread rainfall as system strengthens over Bay of Bengal
- Yellow alert issued for several Telangana districts till Sunday
Hyderabad, Oct 22 (Maxim News): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to moderate rainfall across Telangana over the next four days as a low-pressure area formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal on Wednesday. The system is expected to strengthen further and move towards the coasts of north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh by Thursday afternoon.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure system is likely to turn into a depression as it progresses west-northwestwards, potentially impacting weather conditions across southern states. The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre stated that the system would bring consistent rainfall to many parts of Telangana through the weekend, prompting the issuance of a yellow alert for several districts.
On Wednesday, light to heavy rain was predicted in Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanmakonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba, and Gadwal districts. The IMD warned that these conditions will persist, with Thursday likely to see light to moderate showers in most of these areas, extending up to Kamareddy and Medak regions.
By Friday, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, and surrounding districts. The IMD also cautioned about gusty winds, thunder, and lightning in parts of Bhupalpally, Mulugu, and Khammam. The rainfall pattern is likely to continue into Saturday, expanding to northern areas such as Adilabad, Nirmal, and Nizamabad by Sunday.
Residents have been advised to remain alert, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Urban centers like Hyderabad and Rangareddy are expected to experience moderate rain accompanied by cloudy skies and occasional thunderstorms. The IMD urged farmers and travelers to monitor weather updates closely as the system could intensify over the bay in the next 24 hours.
