Pakistan Afghanistan War Escalates After Airstrikes
- Airstrikes Hit Kabul and Kandahar Amid Border Dispute
- UN Chief Antonio Guterres Urges Diplomacy
Hyderabad: Pakistan Afghanistan war tensions have escalated after Pakistan declared war on Afghanistan over a border dispute and launched airstrikes on Kabul and Kandahar. The development follows a series of exchanges of fire in the early hours of Friday, which sharply increased hostilities between the two countries.
Afghan officials confirmed that airstrikes took place in Kabul. Pakistani warplanes also carried out attacks in Kandahar and the southeastern Paktia provinces in southern Afghanistan. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stated that the strikes targeted these areas. However, Afghan officials did not provide detailed information on casualties. They said that at least 133 people were killed in Kabul, including children and women.
Meanwhile, local media reported that the Afghan army launched a cross border attack in retaliation for Pakistani airstrikes in Afghan border areas on Thursday. Afghan soldiers reportedly captured more than a dozen Pakistani army posts during the operation. The Afghan Defence Ministry announced that ten soldiers were killed. Afghan officials also stated that civilians were killed near the Torkham border crossing.
However, Pakistan denied Kabul’s claims. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that Afghan claims about captured military posts were false. He described the firing as provocative. Therefore, both sides have issued conflicting statements about the ground situation.
The sharp escalation has drawn global attention. United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged both countries to protect civilians and resolve their differences through diplomacy. Meanwhile, tensions continue to remain high along the border areas.
The situation marks a serious deterioration in Pakistan Afghanistan relations. Both countries have traded accusations following the airstrikes and retaliatory operations. However, clarity on several claims remains limited as both sides stand by their respective versions. As international concern grows, calls for restraint and dialogue have intensified to prevent further escalation.
