Hyderabad, May 18: Begum Bazar police arrested a notorious habitual house burglar and recovered stolen gold ornaments and cash worth nearly Rs 30 lakh in Hyderabad.
The accused was identified as Amar Sonkambale, 20, who was residing near NM Guda footpath area in Kishan Bagh. He originally belongs to Udgir village in Latur district of Maharashtra.
Police recovered around 206 grams of gold ornaments and cash amounting to Rs 2,14,600 from his possession.
The accused was apprehended on May 17 by the Begum Bazar police crime team under the supervision of ACP Goshamahal Division.
CCTV Footage Helped Crack Burglary Case
According to police, the burglary took place during the early hours of May 6 between 3:30 am and 5:30 am at Hindi Nagar in Goshamahal under Begum Bazar police station limits.
Complainant M Krishna reported that unidentified persons broke into his residence at 5-5-726/A, Hindi Nagar, and stole gold ornaments weighing about 235 grams along with nearly Rs 10 lakh cash.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Crime No. 129/2026 and launched an investigation.
Investigators examined CCTV footage collected from nearby areas and identified the suspect before tracking him down.
Police said the recovered property included stolen gold ornaments and cash linked to the burglary case.
Accused Linked To Multiple Criminal Cases
According to investigators, Amar Sonkambale worked as a waiter in function halls and allegedly turned to thefts to support his lavish lifestyle and addictions, including alcohol consumption, smoking and frequent pub visits.
Police said the accused was born and brought up in Hyderabad’s Kishan Bagh area though his family originally belongs to Maharashtra.
Officials revealed that he was already involved in three house burglary cases and one POCSO case registered in Hyderabad.
The accused was previously booked in cases registered at Begum Bazar and Attapur police stations under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act.
The operation was carried out by Inspector P Bharat Kumar, Detective Sub Inspector K Jagadeeshwar Rao and the Begum Bazar crime team under the guidance of Golconda Zone DCP G Chandra Mohan IPS and ACP K Chandra Sekhar Reddy.
Police officials said the stolen property was recovered within a short period after the complaint was filed.
