Thiruvananthapuram, May 27: Tension prevailed in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday after alleged supporters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) attacked a vehicle belonging to the Enforcement Directorate during searches linked to a money laundering investigation.
The incident occurred near the residence of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Bakery Junction while ED officials were carrying out searches connected to the CMRL financial case.
ED Vehicle Damaged During Protest
According to reports, protesters gathered in large numbers outside the residence and allegedly vandalised the ED vehicle using helmets, stones and plastic bottles.
Security personnel deployed at the spot were also reportedly attacked during the unrest.
Police and senior party leaders later intervened to bring the situation under control.
Officials said the searches were linked to allegations involving financial transactions between Kochi Minerals and Exalogic Solutions, a company reportedly associated with Vijayan’s daughter Veena.
Investigators are examining allegations that around Rs 1.72 crore was illegally transferred in the case.
Reports said ED officials were conducting searches at nearly 12 locations as part of the ongoing investigation.
Further details are awaited.
