The incident occurred on June 4 during a programme focused on artificial intelligence and international law.
Indian High Commission Condemns Disruption
According to reports, the disruption took place during the question and answer session that followed the Chief Justice’s address. Some participants raised concerns related to freedom of expression in India and other issues that organizers reportedly considered unrelated to the topic of the lecture.
As the discussion moved away from the subject of the event, organizers decided to end the question and answer session.
The High Commission of India in London condemned the incident and described the behaviour of some attendees as inappropriate for an academic event.
In a statement, the High Commission said differences of opinion should be expressed in a dignified and respectful manner, especially during public discussions involving senior constitutional authorities.
The event was intended to focus on the impact of artificial intelligence on international law and related legal developments.
Videos of the incident later circulated on social media platforms, drawing attention to the disruption during the Chief Justice’s visit to London.
No further official comments have been issued by Justice Surya Kant regarding the incident.
