China Rejects Guntur Chilli Containers Over Pesticide Residues

Guntur, June 14: Guntur chilli exports suffered a setback after Chinese authorities rejected three containers of chillies from Andhra Pradesh over pesticide residue levels exceeding permitted limits.

According to reports, testing conducted by Chinese authorities detected excessive pesticide residues in the export consignment. The shipment was reportedly found to contain methamidophos beyond international food safety limits, leading to its rejection.

The development has raised concerns among chilli farmers and exporters in Guntur, as China remains an important export destination. Trade circles fear the rejection could affect future export opportunities if quality compliance issues continue.

Concerns Rise Over Guntur Chilli Exports

Farmer associations expressed concern over the incident and urged the Andhra Pradesh government to impose stricter controls on pesticides containing methamidophos.

They also called for greater awareness among farmers on safe pesticide alternatives and better guidance to meet export quality standards.
