Hyderabad, July 4: The Hyderabad Traffic Police have launched a special enforcement drive against vehicles using fake, tampered, or unauthorized registration number plates following a surge in public complaints.
Officials said such violations are illegal under the Motor Vehicles Act and other applicable laws. The drive aims to prevent motorists from concealing vehicle identities, evading traffic enforcement, and violating registration norms.
Traffic Police Crack Down with Five Criminal Cases
As part of the week long operation, the Hyderabad Traffic Police registered five criminal cases and seized several vehicles found using fraudulent registration plates.
The cases were registered under the jurisdictions of Tappachabutra, IS Sadan, Tolichowki, Abids, and Malakpet police stations.

The Traffic Police also reminded vehicle owners that only government approved High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are legally valid. Officials warned that custom designed plates, altered number plates, missing digits, and temporary sticker plates are prohibited.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis said the department follows a zero tolerance policy against fraudulent vehicle registration practices. He warned that offenders would face criminal prosecution and immediate seizure of their vehicles.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police appealed to citizens to comply with prescribed number plate norms and traffic regulations. Officials said similar enforcement drives will continue across the city to ensure road safety, strengthen law enforcement, and prevent crime.
