Hyderabad, Sept. 12: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the vegetarian menu served to BRICS leaders at a gala dinner in New Delhi.
Gandhi criticised the Modi government over the decision and questioned why non vegetarian dishes were not included.
He said around 80 percent of Indians eat non vegetarian food.
Gandhi alleged that the BJP had a tendency to impose its food preferences on people.
He also questioned the decision to serve only vegetarian food to visiting heads of state.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera also criticised the Centre over the dinner menu.
Khera questioned whether the government should impose its food preferences on international guests.
He said guests could choose what they preferred if different types of food were available.
Khera also highlighted India’s diverse culinary traditions and questioned the absence of non vegetarian options.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju responded to the Congress criticism.
Rijiju accused the Congress of politicising the food menu served during the BRICS event.
He said the visiting leaders liked the vegetarian menu.
Rijiju said the menu was chosen to showcase vegetarian food traditions from different parts of India.
The exchange followed the BRICS Summit hosted by India in New Delhi.
The menu issue has since triggered a political debate between the Congress and the BJP.
