New down ramp on PVNR Expressway to open today

Hyderabad: The country’s longest elevated corridor, PVNR Expressway that connects the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad with Mehdipatnam in the city, has acquired one more ramp. The down ramp at Laxminagar set up by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) at an estimated cost of Rs 5.03 crore, is slated to be inaugurated on Saturday by Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav.

Once opened for traffic, the ramp will ease the movement of vehicles coming from Aramgarh, Shamshabad and surrounding areas, and heading towards not only Gudimalkapur but also the vicinities including Toli Chowki, Gachibowli, Jubilee Hills, Film Nagar and Hitec City. Stretching 195m in length and 7m in width, the ramp has been constructed by M Venkata Rao Infra Projects Pvt Ltd.

The HMDA had built the 11.6 km-long PVNR Expressway from SD Eye Hospital in Mehdipatnam to Aramgarh on NH-65 (Bengaluru highway) for faster connectivity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and also road stretches that lead to other major destinations. Though the down ramp at Laxminagar was envisaged as part of the initial design, its execution had been mired in delays all these years. The expressway was designed with a four-lane elevated corridor with up and down ramps at three locations. The project was opened to traffic in September 2009 except for this ramp at Laxminagar due to site constraints.

“Due to a religious structure that was located, the proposal to build the ramp took a backseat for years. After protracted discussions with the committee members of the structure, it was shifted, making way for the construction of the project,” said a HMDA official. With the inauguration of the Laxminagar down ramp, the expressway was completed in all aspects, the official added.
