Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 12 (Maxim News): As part of its crackdown on political parties violating statutory norms, the Election Commission has decided to de-recognize 476 more political parties across the country. These include 26 more parties in Telugu states.
The EC, which de-recognised 354 parties in the first list, released the second list on Monday, state/union territory wise. It said that 17 parties in AP and 9 in Telangana are included in this list.
The EC said that steps have been taken to identify and remove from the list registered unregistered political parties (RUPPs) that have failed to fulfil the key condition of contesting at least one election in the six years since 2019. The EC said that these steps are being taken as part of a comprehensive strategy to make the electoral system clean.
It is known that the Election Commission of India, while releasing the first list recently, clarified that none of the delisted parties will be entitled to the benefits under Sections 29C and 29B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the income -tax Act, 1961, and the Electoral Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968.
