Speaking to a large crowd in Miryalguda, where sanction letters for Indiramma Housing were distributed to beneficiaries—Uttam Kumar Reddy said the government’s top priority is ensuring every family has a dignified home. “No one should be left behind,” he stressed.

The event drew prominent figures, including Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Komatireddy Venkatreddy, MLC Shankar Naik, and MLAs B Lakshma Reddy and Veeresham. Together, they celebrated the rollout of the flagship Indiramma Housing initiative.

Uttam Kumar Reddy credited Congress workers for their hard work and sacrifice in helping the party return to power in 2023, and praised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy for driving the massive housing plan.  Under Indiramma Housing scheme, the Congress government plans to build 4.5 lakh houses across the state at an estimated cost of ₹22,000 crore. Every constituency will get 3,500 homes with each having 400 square feet of living space, sturdy RCC roofing, a kitchen, and a toilet—basic features that bring a sense of dignity and security to each family.

Turning to irrigation, the minister promised that all pending projects in Miryalguda would be completed within the government’s current term. “I’ve received multiple requests about unfinished works, and I assure you, they’ll be cleared for execution soon,” he said.

On the contentious issue of Krishna River water sharing, Uttam Kumar Reddy voiced frustration over what he described as a raw deal for Telangana. Despite the state’s large catchment area and significant drought-prone farmland, Andhra Pradesh gets 512 TMC of Krishna water while Telangana gets just 299 TMC, he said.

He blamed the previous BRS government for failing to protect Telangana’s fair share. “The BRS regime didn’t even convene the Apex Council meeting to challenge AP’s Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme. Their inaction let AP proceed unchecked,” he charged.

Quoting the data of the Krishna River Management Board, he said AP consistently drew over 64 percent of Krishna water between 2014-15 and 2020-21, leaving Telangana with less than 36 percent. In 2014-15 alone, AP drew 529.33 TMC while Telangana received 227.74 TMC. By 2020-21, AP’s take climbed to 629.07 TMC, with Telangana’s allocation rising only slightly to 248.23 TMC. “The BRS government’s failure to act decisively allowed AP to keep draining Krishna water illegally,” Reddy added.

He also highlighted AP’s capacity expansions, like the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, which jumped from 44,000 cusecs in 2005 to 92,600 cusecs by 2023, allowing AP to divert even more water from Telangana’s rightful share. He pointed to other projects, including RLIS and Veligonda, that compounded the challenge for Telangana’s own irrigation lifelines like Kalwakurthy, Nettampadu, and Palamuru-Rangareddy.

Uttam Kumar Reddy assured residents that work on the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel would resume soon, promising 30 TMC of water for the combined Nalgonda district. “We’ll prioritize this region’s development by finishing all pending projects,” he said.

On agriculture, he proudly noted that Telangana had set a new record in Yasangi paddy procurement, 72.42 lakh metric tonnes as of June 8, 2025, up from 59.77 lakh metric tonnes collected by the BRS government on the same date in 2023. He credited the expansion of procurement centres from 7,034 to 8,378 for ensuring that every farmer’s harvest found a buyer.

The minister also highlighted direct financial support for farmers: ₹15,121 crore had been disbursed to 12.33 lakh farmers this season, more than double the ₹5,932 crore paid to 9.81 lakh farmers during the same period under the BRS government. “Our policies have directly improved farmers’ incomes and bolstered the rural economy,” he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also singled out the Free Fine Rice Scheme, providing 6 kg of fine rice per beneficiary each month, as a milestone in welfare delivery. The scheme benefits nearly 3.10 crore people, about 84 percent of the state’s population, at a cost of more than ₹13,000 crore a year.
