Hyderabad, August 20: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Disciplinary Committee has issued a notice to Endowments and Forest Minister Konda Surekha, seeking an explanation over remarks made by her daughter Konda Sushmita Patel against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Parkal MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy.
Disciplinary Committee chairman and Congress MP Mallu Ravi has given Surekha three days to respond. The notice comes amid growing differences within the ruling Congress over the Parkal Assembly constituency.
Konda Sushmita Challenges Revanth Reddy Over Parkal Seat
The latest dispute follows Revanth Reddy’s recent visit to Parkal in Warangal district, where he backed sitting MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy for another term and appealed to voters to support him.
The remarks reportedly upset the Konda camp, which has been seeking a Congress ticket for Sushmita from Parkal. Her father and former MLC Konda Murali had earlier announced her candidature.
Speaking at an event in Geesugonda on Wednesday, organised to mark her mother Konda Surekha’s birthday, Sushmita said she was ready to contest the next Assembly election from Parkal “with or without a Congress ticket.”
She also challenged Revanth Reddy and his family members to contest against her.
Sushmita questioned the Chief Minister’s statement that he intended to remain in office for ten years. She referred to former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and also recalled Revanth Reddy’s defeat in the Kodangal Assembly constituency in the past.
Sushmita Accuses Congress Leadership of Sidelining Workers
Sushmita also accused the Congress leadership of sidelining grassroots workers and weakening Backward Classes representation within the party.
She alleged that Revanth Reddy had become “arrogant” after becoming Chief Minister and claimed that the party was functioning like a “TDP Congress.”
She accused the Chief Minister of favouring leaders who had joined the Congress from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Sushmita further alleged, without providing evidence, that intelligence agencies were being misused against Congress leaders.
She also questioned the role of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy in the administration, asking whether he or Revanth Reddy was effectively running the government.
Sushmita additionally repeated an allegation earlier raised by the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) concerning a land deal linked to the Chief Minister’s brother.
Konda Family Has Faced Earlier Congress Controversies
This is not the first time Sushmita’s public remarks against Congress leaders have triggered controversy.
In October last year, following a police visit to the Konda family’s Hyderabad residence in connection with an extortion case involving Surekha’s then aide, Sushmita accused senior Congress leaders, including Revanth Reddy, of targeting her parents because they belonged to a Backward Class community.
Surekha later apologised to Revanth Reddy over the remarks and described the episode as a misunderstanding within the party.
The Congress high command has not yet publicly commented on the latest controversy.
Meanwhile, the party’s disciplinary panel has sought explanations from two other leaders this week over unrelated conduct issues.
