Hyderabad, August 20: Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to launch next month with a new A20 Pro chipset, larger batteries and upgraded camera systems.
However, a new leak suggests that one of the most anticipated camera upgrades could be exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
iPhone 18 Pro Max Tipped to Get Variable-Aperture Camera
Rumours of a variable-aperture main camera on Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models have been circulating for several months.
Now, tipster Ice Universe has claimed that Apple could reserve the feature specifically for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
According to the tipster, the variable-aperture camera hardware requires additional internal space. The larger Pro Max chassis could provide Apple with enough room to accommodate the technology.
However, no further technical details about the camera system have been revealed so far.
A variable-aperture camera would potentially give users greater control over light intake and depth of field. It could also improve camera performance in different lighting conditions, although the actual benefits will depend on Apple’s implementation.
Pro Max Could Be Heavier and Thicker
The latest claim comes alongside earlier reports about the physical dimensions of the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Ice Universe had previously claimed that the device could weigh around 240 grams and measure approximately 9mm in thickness.
If accurate, that would make the upcoming model slightly heavier and thicker than the current iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The additional thickness could partly be linked to the larger battery and new camera hardware reportedly planned for the device.
Apple Reserved Camera Features for Pro Max Before
This would not be the first time Apple has offered a significant camera advantage exclusively on its larger Pro Max model.
In 2023, the iPhone 15 Pro Max introduced a tetraprism telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, while the iPhone 15 Pro featured a 3x optical telephoto camera.
Apple could therefore follow a similar strategy with the iPhone 18 lineup by reserving certain advanced hardware for the top-end Pro Max model.
However, the latest information remains unconfirmed, and Apple has not officially announced the camera specifications of the iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max.
More details are expected to emerge ahead of the devices’ anticipated launch next month.
