New Delhi, May 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed the remarkable progress of Indian athletics, describing the current phase as a “golden era” for the sport while addressing the 134th episode of Mann Ki Baat.

The Prime Minister said Indian athletes are making the nation proud by delivering outstanding performances on the global stage and setting new benchmarks in domestic competitions.

Indian Athletics Witnesses Record Breaking Performances

Referring to the recent National Senior Athletics Federation Championships held in Ranchi, Modi said athletes displayed exceptional talent and set four national records across different disciplines.

He praised Gurinderveer Singh, Vishal TK, Tejaswin Shankar, Dev Meena and Kuldeep Kumar for their record breaking achievements.

The Prime Minister highlighted the men’s 100 metre sprint competition, noting that the national record was broken three times within two days, a rare achievement in Indian athletics.

He also appreciated the performances of young athletes such as Animesh Kujur and Gurinderveer Singh, saying their success reflects the growing sporting culture in the country.

Modi said these achievements would inspire young people to pursue sports and strengthen India’s prospects at international competitions.

The Prime Minister also cautioned citizens about the severe heatwave conditions affecting several parts of the country. He urged people to stay hydrated, avoid exposure during peak daytime heat and take necessary precautions to protect their health.

He advised children, senior citizens and people with existing health conditions to remain particularly vigilant during the ongoing summer season.

During the programme, Modi also referred to the National Archives of India and highlighted efforts to preserve India’s historical records. He said more than 20 crore historical documents have been digitised and made accessible through the Archives Wall portal.
