Hyderabad, May 15: The Government of Telangana has intensified efforts to improve high speed rail connectivity linking Hyderabad with major metropolitan cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai.
Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao on Friday conducted a high level review meeting at the Secretariat regarding proposed high speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with other major economic hubs.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed officials to prepare detailed proposals and Detailed Project Reports, DPRs, in coordination with the Central Railways.
Officials said the proposed rail corridors are being planned as part of the State government’s long term Telangana Rising 2047 vision.
The Chief Secretary stated that improved rail connectivity would significantly benefit the industrial, IT and tourism sectors in Telangana.
He specifically instructed officials to prepare DPRs for the proposed Hyderabad Pune Mumbai high speed rail corridor.
According to officials, proposals are being prepared for a 671 kilometre route under the project.
The government also identified land acquisition requirements for the proposed corridors.
Officials informed the meeting that nearly 93 kilometres of land acquisition would be required within Telangana limits for the Hyderabad Pune Mumbai corridor.
For the proposed Hyderabad Bengaluru and Chennai corridors, around 123 kilometres of land acquisition would be necessary.
The Chief Secretary directed departments to speed up coordination related to infrastructure planning, land acquisition and connectivity integration.
Officials said the project is being planned in coordination with agencies including Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, GMR Group and Indian Railways authorities.
The State government believes the proposed high speed rail network could strengthen Hyderabad’s position as a major economic and logistics hub in the country. Further discussions on funding, route alignment and execution timelines are expected in the coming months.
