Reviewing the situation with officials on Monday, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has placed the entire revenue and disaster management machinery on alert from the state level to the village level.
Heavy Rains Forecast Across Telangana
According to weather department estimates, the southwest monsoon is advancing rapidly and is expected to cover the entire state within the next three to four days. Officials have indicated that rainfall activity will intensify significantly from June 19 and may continue for nearly a week.
The minister said all district administrations have been instructed to closely monitor weather forecasts and issue timely alerts wherever necessary.
He noted that the southwest monsoon entered South Telangana on June 8 through Jogulamba Gadwal district and has since progressed through several regions of the state. At present, the monsoon system is active along the northern border and covers areas including Hyderabad and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.
By June 14, the monsoon had spread across all districts in South Telangana and several districts in Central Telangana.
Officials Asked to Maintain Constant Vigilance
Ponguleti directed district collectors, revenue officials and disaster management personnel to continuously review weather bulletins and maintain close coordination with all concerned departments.
He instructed officials to identify vulnerable locations where rainfall intensity could increase and implement preventive measures well in advance. Special attention has been directed towards flood-prone areas, low-lying regions, waterlogging points and locations vulnerable to damage during heavy rains.
The minister emphasized that protecting lives and property remains the government’s highest priority. He said all district administrations must remain fully prepared to respond to any emergency arising from heavy rainfall.
Rainfall Below Normal So Far
The minister noted that Telangana has recorded 49.2 mm of rainfall from June 1 till date against the normal average of 54.9 mm. This represents a rainfall deficit of nearly 10 percent during the current period.
However, with the monsoon strengthening rapidly, officials expect rainfall activity to increase substantially over the coming days.
Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the government is taking every possible step to ensure public safety during the monsoon season. He directed officials to work with full commitment and vigilance until the end of the rainy season and ensure that citizens do not face inconvenience due to rain-related incidents.
Monsoon Preparedness Measures
The minister also instructed disaster management teams to remain ready with emergency response plans and advised district authorities to maintain coordination with weather officials for real-time updates. He stressed the importance of timely communication and preparedness to minimize the impact of any adverse weather conditions. (Maxim News)
