Hyderabad Journalist | Hyderabad, Sept. 19 (Maxim News) : The Assam government has launched a major literary project to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika.
As part of the initiative, the biography of the legendary singer, written by noted Assamese author Anuradha Pujari Sharma, has been translated into all Indian constitutional languages, including Hindi, Urdu, Telugu, and others.
In a significant recognition for Hyderabad’s literary community, senior journalist and translator F. M. Saleem, who is also the Bureau Chief of Daily Hindi Milap, undertook the Urdu translation of the biography.
The Urdu edition was formally released in Guwahati by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the national importance of the project.
The publication initiative was spearheaded by the Assam government’s publication department as a cultural tribute to Bhupen Hazarika, whose contributions as a singer, poet, and cultural icon remain deeply influential across India.

Officials said the multilingual translation project aims to bring Hazarika’s life and work closer to diverse linguistic communities across the country.
The Urdu edition copy-edited by Dr. Fazil Hussain Pervaz, editor of the Gawah Urdu Weekly. His editorial role ensured that the translation retained both the literary essence of the original and accessibility for Urdu readers.
The Telugu and Kannada translations from Hyderabad were done by Pathipaka Mohan and Ajay Verma, respectively.
The project has been widely welcomed as a step towards promoting inclusivity and cultural heritage.
Translating the biography into multiple languages allows future generations to engage with the life and vision of Bhupen Hazarika, who is remembered not only as a legendary singer but also as a voice of social harmony and cultural pride.
With the biography now available in all major Indian languages, the Assam government’s initiative ensures that the story of Bhupen Hazarika reaches readers across linguistic and regional boundaries. (Maxim News)
