Hyderabad, July 5 (Maxim News): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression, raising the likelihood of widespread rainfall across Telangana and neighbouring states over the next 24 hours.
According to the IMD, the depression is currently centred about 50 km south-southeast of Balasore, 60 km northeast of Chandbali, and 60 km south-southwest of Digha. The weather system is expected to move west-northwestwards and cross the north Odisha coast between Chandbali and Digha near Balasore within the next 24 hours before advancing towards north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh.
Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds Expected
Under the influence of the depression, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at many places across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha. The IMD has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in these states.
The weather department has warned of gusty winds with speeds of 50–60 kmph along the Odisha coast as the system makes landfall.
Authorities have advised fishermen not to venture into the sea until further notice. Those already at sea have been urged to return to the coast immediately.
The Disaster Management Department has also appealed to residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas to remain alert and strictly follow advisories issued by local authorities as heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging and localized flooding.
Officials are closely monitoring the movement of the depression and have asked district administrations to remain prepared for any weather-related emergencies.
