Moscow/Internet/Hyderabad, Aug 14 (Maxim News): Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that India is interested in the Northern Sea Route (NSR) route through the Arctic Sea. Putin said that India’s economy is developing very rapidly and India is interested in increasing trade with him in the current context of sanctions by Western countries.
He said that countries like China and India are showing enthusiasm for shipping through the Arctic Sea Route. Putin went to islands near Japan to watch military exercises taking place in northeastern Russia. He said that India is a key partner in the Arctic Regions Forum. The Chennai to Vladivostok corridor will be developed as part of the NSR route. The Chennai-Vladivostok corridor will be approximately 10,380 km long. The NSR is expected to be the shortest shipping route between East Asia and Europe.
Russia is assessing that India is trying to gain strategic advantage through the NSR route. It seems that India is showing interest in this project to counter China. On the one hand, Russia is relying on China, but the relationship between India and China has recently deteriorated. On the other hand, Pakistan is also relying on China. In the context of the recent tensions with China and Pakistan, India is forced to support the NSR sea route proposed by Russia. It is known that India is buying fuel from Russia, ignoring US warnings. The newly proposed trade route has the potential to become crucial in the context of increasing tensions between the US and India.
If you travel via the Chennai-Vladivostok route, you can cover 5647 nautical miles in 12 days. Ships travel via the Sea of Japan, East China Sea, South China Sea, and the Strait of Malacca. However, in the past, there was a sea route from Mumbai to Petersburg. It takes 32 days to cover a distance of about 8675 nautical miles by traveling via the Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and Baltic Sea. However, Putin said that India believes that the proposed NSR route will save a lot of time. (Maxim News)
