Kolkata Strike Threat: Pakistan Warns India

  • Kolkata strike threat by Khawaja Asif raises tensions

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Saturday warned India of a possible strike in Kolkata in case of any “future misadventures.” His remarks have added to rising tensions between the two countries amid strong statements from both sides.

Speaking to reporters in Sialkot, located about 130 kms from Lahore, Asif said, “If India tries to stage any false flag operation this time, then God-willingly, we will take it to Kolkata.” His statement directly referred to a potential escalation in response to alleged actions by India.

He further claimed that there are reports of a possible false flag operation being planned. According to him, such an operation could involve actions carried out through their own men or Pakistanis in detention, followed by claims that “they were terrorists and had done so and so.” However, he did not provide any evidence to support these allegations.

Meanwhile, Asif had earlier stated on Thursday that Pakistan’s response to any attack would be “swift, calibrated, and decisive.” His repeated remarks underline Pakistan’s position on responding strongly to perceived threats.

On the other hand, the comments came after statements by India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Singh had said that any “misadventure” from India’s neighbour in the current situation would invite an “unprecedented and decisive” action. These opposing statements have further intensified the exchange of warnings.

The backdrop to the current tension includes the Pahalgam attack that took place on April 22 last year. The incident had resulted in a four day conflict between the two countries. Therefore, the recent remarks have drawn attention as both sides recall past developments while issuing fresh warnings.

Overall, the statements from both defence ministers reflect a sharp exchange of rhetoric. While Pakistan has raised concerns about alleged false flag operations, India has reiterated its stance on strong retaliation. The situation continues to be closely watched as no further details have been officially confirmed.
