Hyderabad, June 13: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief and MLC Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud defended Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan and alleged that the BJP was attempting to increase its strength in the Rajya Sabha through political pressure.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Mahesh Kumar Goud stated that there was no criminal case against Meenakshi Natarajan and claimed that only a notice had been issued in the matter. He questioned whether recent developments reflected democratic functioning and accused the BJP of acting with political intent.
The TPCC chief described Meenakshi Natarajan as a leader known for integrity and said the developments surrounding her nomination were unfortunate. He alleged that constitutional institutions had not acted fairly in the process.
Mahesh Kumar Goud further criticised the BJP and accused it of weakening democratic values. He said political differences are natural but alleged that attempts were being made to gain political advantage through institutional processes.
He also expressed disappointment over the response time of the Election Commission and claimed that some BJP leaders had privately shown sympathy toward Meenakshi Natarajan.
The remarks come amid political debate surrounding the rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination and continued exchanges between Congress and BJP leaders over the issue.
