Munda Worships Sammakka-Sarakka, Assures National Festival Status To Medaram Fest

Hyderabad, Feb.8 (Maxim News): Union Minister for Tribal Welfare Arjun Munda said very popular biennial Medaram Jathara in Telangana State will be conferred national festival status.

The Union minister made a visit to the forest shrine and offered “Bangaram” (jaggery) and prayers to the deities Sammakka and Sarakka at the altars on the last day of the four-days tribal fair.

Talking to mediapersons later, Munda said he would take the demand of Telangana State for national status to the tribal festival to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I hope the dream of national status will be coming true. I hope the Prime Minister will agree to the just demand to the ancient tribal festival”, he said.

The State ministers, who assisted Arjun Munda include A Indrakaran Reddy, P Ajay Kumar and Satyavati Rathod. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, DGP Mahender Reddy and others were also present. (Maxim News)
