Hyderabad, August 7: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla extended greetings to weavers across the state on the occasion of National Handloom Day, highlighting the rich textile heritage of Telangana and urging people to support handloom artisans by purchasing locally made products.
The Governor also shared a video on social media featuring Sircilla handloom artisan Veldi Hariprasad, who earned recognition for weaving a matchbox sized saree in just 170 minutes.
Governor Highlights Telangana’s Handloom Heritage
In his message, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla described handloom as a symbol of India’s cultural heritage and praised Telangana weavers for earning national recognition through their craftsmanship and creativity.
He said the handloom traditions of Pochampally Ikkat, Gadwal, Narayanpet, Sircilla and Kothakota represent the state’s rich textile legacy.
“Weavers are the artisans who have preserved our culture through their skills and kept traditional weaving alive for generations,” the Governor said.
He noted that the handloom sector supports the livelihoods of thousands of families and appealed to citizens to embrace the Vocal for Local initiative by choosing handloom fabrics.
The Governor expressed hope that increased use of handloom products would strengthen the sector and improve the livelihoods of weavers across Telangana.
