Police Commemoration Week: “Mega Blood Donation Camp” organized by Hyderabad City Police
Hyderabad, Oct 27 (Maxim News): As part of the Police Commemoration Week being observed from October 21st to 31st, 2025, the Hyderabad City Police today (October 27th) organized a Mega Blood Donation Drive across all zones of the city. A total of 12 blood donation camps were conducted, with around 3,500 donors participating in this large-scale humanitarian initiative.
The event was held as a tribute to the supreme sacrifices of police martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty and to reaffirm the police force’s commitment to social service. The camps were also organized to extend support to patients suffering from Thalassemia, a hereditary blood disorder that requires regular transfusions. Police officers, personnel, and citizens actively participated in large numbers and donated blood voluntarily.
Speaking on the occasion, Telangana State DGP, B. Shivdhar Reddy, stated that similar blood donation camps were being held across the state in memory of the police martyrs. He remarked, “Donating blood is akin to giving life. People should recognize its importance and voluntarily donate blood at least two to four times a year. Every year, nearly 8,000 people lose their lives in road accidents in our state, and in many cases, timely availability of blood could have saved them.”
He further emphasized that Thalassemia patients require blood transfusions every 15 days and noted that the disease can be prevented through awareness. Recalling the service initiatives taken by Sri V.C. Sajjanar, during the COVID-19 period as Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, expressed happiness over the large-scale organization of such blood donation camps and congratulated all the donors.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, V.C. Sajjanar, in his address, urged the youth to come forward voluntarily to donate blood and actively participate in awareness programs to prevent Thalassemia. He mentioned that the City Police aimed to collect about 3,500 units of blood through 12 camps held across all zones of the city. He reiterated that this mega camp was conducted as a mark of respect to the sacrifices made by police martyrs. “Citizens should view blood donation as a social responsibility and make it a regular practice, even during personal celebrations or family functions. Blood is vital during road accident emergencies and major surgeries. The blood collected today will be given to Thalassemia patients,” he added.
The Commissioner expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the camp, including police officers, representatives from Thalassemia Foundation & Sickle Cell Society, Red Cross Society, Lions Club of Secunderabad, Rotary Club, as well as Osmania, Gandhi, King Koti, Niloufer, MNJ Cancer Hospital, Chiranjeevi Blood Bank, IPM Narayanguda, NIMS, and Srinidhi Blood Banks. He stated that such community service initiatives would continue in the future as well.
