Hyderabad, April 20 (Maxim News): Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday accused former minister Harish Rao of rushing to Delhi to avoid a CBI probe into alleged Kaleshwaram Project corruption.
After inspecting the damaged Medigadda Barrage pillars, the Chief Minister spoke to the media. He questioned why Harish Rao needed to meet lawyers even before the court delivered its judgment.
Revanth Reddy said the state government would not stay silent if anyone tried to use the BJP to escape legal action. He added that authorities would punish all those responsible in the Kaleshwaram case.
Kaleshwaram Probe and Medigadda Repairs
The Chief Minister said leaders first planned the Pranahita Chevella project to bring Godavari water to North Telangana. He added that the earlier project estimate stood at Rs 38,063 crore.
However, he alleged that the previous BRS government redesigned the project and sharply raised the cost to nearly Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
He also said leaders projected Medigadda as a great achievement in 2018. However, the barrage later developed structural problems in 2023.
Moreover, Revanth Reddy said the National Dam Safety Authority had given an initial report in November 2023. Yet, he alleged the previous government ignored the warning.
He said the state later sent a resolution to the Centre seeking a CBI inquiry based on the P.C. Ghose Committee report.
Therefore, he asked why Union leaders who once demanded action are now silent. He also questioned why the Centre has not acted despite repeated letters.
The Chief Minister said the government would not abandon the project because public money was spent on it. Instead, it would carry out repairs and use the project for farmers.
Meanwhile, he alleged BRS leaders held political meetings to divert attention from the issue. Still, he said the government allowed their programmes.
Finally, Revanth Reddy said the state would move ahead with a clear plan and punish anyone found guilty under the law.
