Delimitation Assembly Seats | Hyderabad, April 15: The delimitation process will raise Assembly and Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. It will also change state politics. Authorities will redraw constituencies using 2011 Census data. As a result, political dynamics may shift across the state.
At present, Telangana has 17 Lok Sabha seats. However, this number will increase to 26. At the same time, Assembly seats will rise from 119 to 182.
Therefore, each Lok Sabha segment will have seven Assembly constituencies. Moreover, the plan will bring one third reservation for women.
So, around 60 Assembly seats will go to women. This step will change party strategies in elections.
Seat Distribution and Reservation Details
Officials will fix constituencies based on population data. Each Assembly seat will cover about 1.92 lakh people. However, planners will allow a 10 percent variation.
Meanwhile, Scheduled Castes will get 28 seats. Out of these, women may get 9 seats.
Similarly, Scheduled Tribes will get 16 seats. Among them, women may get 5 seats.
On the other hand, the general category will have 138 seats. Out of these, women may get 46 seats.
Likewise, in Lok Sabha, women may get around 8 reserved seats.
Committee Structure and Process
A Supreme Court judge will lead the panel. In addition, officials from the Election Commission and census teams will join.
Survey of India members will also take part. Moreover, five MPs and five MLAs will join as members. They will attend meetings and give suggestions. Meanwhile, the process may start from Adilabad.
Urban Areas to Gain More Seats
Urban areas will get more seats. Over the years, migration to cities has increased.

Therefore, areas around Hyderabad will gain more constituencies. In particular, Rangareddy and Medchal may see more seats. As a result, experts expect 45 to 50 new seats in these regions.
Rural Areas to See Balanced Share
However, rural areas will see fewer changes. The process uses 2011 data. So, it does not fully show recent migration. Therefore, rural Telangana will keep a fair share.
Earlier, Telangana had 107 seats before bifurcation. Later, it increased to 119 in 2008. However, the proposal to raise seats to 153 was not applied. Now, the new plan will increase seats to 182.
Overall, delimitation will reshape political representation in Telangana.
