Hyderabad, Mar 25 (Maxim News): The Telangana Goshala Federation (TGF) has submitted a memorandum to the Governor, the Chief Minister, and senior state officials. The organisation asked the government to take preventive steps against illegal cattle slaughter ahead of the Bakri-Id festival expected in May 2026.
The delegation was led by TGF Honorary President Mahesh Agarwal. The Federation requested strict enforcement of the Telangana Cow Slaughter Prohibition and Animal Preservation Act, 1977.
According to the memorandum, authorities should focus on preventive action. The group also stressed the need to maintain communal harmony while enforcing existing animal protection laws. It referred to Article 48 of the Constitution, which speaks about animal preservation.
The Federation suggested a 30-day vigilance period before the festival. It asked the government to form special enforcement teams to monitor illegal cattle transport and slaughter activities.
It also requested strict checks at state borders. According to the memorandum, police should increase surveillance at transit points. The Federation urged Station House Officers to take quick action against violations.
The group also proposed a temporary suspension of cattle markets before the festival. It suggested stopping large animal markets for about 15 days to prevent illegal trade.
The Federation further recommended setting up temporary shelters for rescued cattle. It also asked the government to arrange round-the-clock veterinary care for such animals.
Mahesh Agarwal said the appeal was based on legal provisions. He expressed confidence that the government would take appropriate steps to ensure law enforcement and maintain peace.
The Federation also urged the Director General of Police and Chief Secretary to issue advisories. It asked local bodies and gram panchayats to remain alert and prevent illegal activities.
Officials have not yet issued a formal response to the memorandum. (Maxim News)
