Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday urged the Central government to allocate all coal blocks in the Godavari Basin to the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) instead of auctioning them, saying the move would strengthen the public sector mining company and safeguard employment.
Addressing a press conference, Vikramarka appealed to the BJP-led NDA government to demonstrate its commitment to Singareni by directly allotting the coal blocks. He also demanded the restoration of SCCL’s Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) status, which he claimed was withdrawn after the NDA came to power.
Tadicherla-II Block Was Not a Fresh Allocation
While thanking the Centre for granting the mining lease for the Tadicherla-II coal block, the Deputy Chief Minister rejected Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy’s claim that it was a fresh allocation aimed at strengthening SCCL.
Vikramarka said the block had already been allotted to Singareni by the UPA government in 2013, and the recent approval was only the long-pending mining lease. He alleged that the NDA government delayed the lease despite repeated requests from the Telangana government.
He said persistent efforts by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the state government eventually resulted in the Centre approving the mining lease.
BRS Blamed for Missing Coal Blocks
The Deputy Chief Minister accused the previous BRS government of preventing SCCL from participating in coal block auctions, resulting in the company losing the Koyagudem and Sattupalli coal blocks.
He also alleged that unpaid dues left by the previous government had weakened the company and said the Congress government was making efforts to clear pending bills and revive SCCL’s financial position.
MP Vamsi Krishna Claims Credit
Meanwhile, Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna said his continuous efforts in Parliament and with the Union government played a key role in securing the allocation of the Tadicherla Coal Block-II to SCCL.
He said the block, with an estimated 182 million tonnes of coal reserves, would significantly boost production, generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and strengthen Telangana’s economy.
Vamsi Krishna recalled that he had written to Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy in February 2026 seeking the allocation and had repeatedly raised the issue in Parliament.
Calling it a victory for Singareni workers and the people of Telangana, he thanked the Centre for approving the mining lease and said the decision would help secure the future of the state-owned coal company.
