TGSRTC strike | Hyderabad, April 22 (Maxim News): A statewide TGSRTC strike began at midnight after talks between employee unions and the Telangana government failed. Bus services stopped across the state, including Hyderabad, causing major trouble for commuters and long distance passengers.
Union leaders said they will continue the protest until the government accepts their key demands. As a result, transport services across Telangana faced severe disruption from early morning.
Depots See Protests and Heavy Police Presence
RTC workers staged sit ins outside major depots across the state. They raised slogans and blocked attempts to move buses from depots. Meanwhile, the government tried to run limited services with private drivers and temporary staff.
However, tensions rise at several depots when workers opposed the entry of private operators. Therefore, police deployed large security teams to prevent clashes and maintain order.
Officials said they are monitoring the situation closely. At the same time, commuters waited for hours at bus stands with no clear travel options.
Private Fares Rise as Demand Surges
With RTC buses off roads, private vehicle operators and cab services increased fares sharply. Passengers said some operators charged 20 to 30 percent more than normal fares.
In addition, app based services such as Ola, Uber and Rapido showed surge pricing in many areas. Because of this, daily commuters and students faced extra financial burden.

Women passengers said they had to depend on autos and shared vehicles to reach workplaces and colleges.
Metro and MMTS Packed With Crowds
Since buses were unavailable, many people shifted to Hyderabad Metro and MMTS trains. Consequently, stations and trains became overcrowded during peak hours.
Passengers reported heavy rush inside coaches, while some people travelled in risky conditions near doors. Authorities advised commuters to stay cautious.
Union leaders said the strike will continue strongly. They added that the protest will end only after formal talks and a settlement with the government.
