The new rules are being implemented with the aim of tightening safety, increasing transparency, and reducing congestion at toll plazas. These changes will directly impact crores of motorists, lorry drivers, and long-distance travelers.  Officials are making it clear that traveling on highways now means not just driving a vehicle, but also strictly following government regulations.

The most important of these new rules is the ID Card Rules,  from April 10, travelers will have to show their Aadhaar card, driving license or any government-recognized ID card at toll plazas or highway check posts.  This decision has been taken to prevent vehicle theft, smuggling and unauthorized transportation.  Not only will you be fined for not having an identity card, but you may also be stopped from traveling.  So, it is better to check whether you have an ID card in your wallet before traveling.

Another key change is the cashless toll.  Cash p[ayments at toll booths have been completely banned from April 10.  The Center has directed that all transactions should be done only through FASTag, UPI and debit cards.  This will avoid the problem of small amounts of toll plazas and traffic will move faster.  Its main purpose is also to curb irregularities in cash exchange.  Those who have not yet taken FASTag should take it immediately, because from now on, cash lines on highways are going to disappear.  (Maxim News)
