Two Young Sisters Die in Hyderabad After Eating Mangoes

Hyderabad: Two minor girls died under suspicious circumstances after falling seriously ill in Hyderabad, prompting police to investigate whether contaminated mangoes or another factor caused the tragedy.

The deceased were identified as 17-year-old Bhuvaneshwari and 10-year-old Sandhya. A case has been registered at Narayanguda Police Station, and officials have launched an investigation.

According to the complaint filed by the family, the girls’ parents, Vaijinath and Indumathi, are natives of Bidar district in Karnataka who migrated to Hyderabad for work.

Police said the family recently purchased mangoes from a vendor near Jalamandali in Narayanguda. After consuming the fruit, the mother and her four daughters reportedly developed severe diarrhoea and related health complications on the same day.

The family rushed all of them to a private hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Bhuvaneshwari died on Monday, while Sandhya succumbed on Tuesday.

Police Investigating Cause of Death

The mother and the other two daughters remain under treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored by doctors.

Investigators are examining whether chemicals used for ripening or preserving the mangoes contributed to the illness. Officials are also exploring other possible causes and are awaiting medical and forensic reports before drawing conclusions.

Police have collected details related to the fruit purchase and are gathering evidence as part of the investigation.

Authorities Await Medical Reports

Officials said it would be premature to link the deaths directly to mango consumption until laboratory tests and postmortem findings are available.

The incident has raised concerns about food safety and the use of chemicals in fruits. However, authorities have urged the public not to speculate until the investigation is completed.

Further details are expected after medical experts submit their findings.
