PM Modi To Visit Uttarakhand Today For Formation Day Celebrations

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Dehradun today to attend the silver jubilee celebrations marking the formation of Uttarakhand. The special programme will begin at around 12.30 p.m. and will feature several developmental initiatives set to boost the state’s growth trajectory across key sectors.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple projects valued at more than Rs 8,140 crore. As part of the celebrations, he will also launch a postal stamp commemorating the 25 years of Uttarakhand’s formation and deliver an address at the event.

According to official details, projects worth over Rs 930 crore will be inaugurated, while new projects worth Rs 7,210 crore will have their foundation stones laid. The initiatives cover crucial areas such as drinking water, irrigation, technical education, energy, urban development, sports, and skill development. Additionally, the Prime Minister will release Rs 62 crore in financial assistance to more than 28,000 farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, transferring the funds directly to their bank accounts.

Among the major works being inaugurated are the Dehradun Water Supply Coverage Project for 23 zones under the AMRUT scheme, an electrical substation in Pithoragarh, and solar power installations on government buildings. The Prime Minister will also dedicate the AstroTurf Hockey Ground at Haldwani Stadium in Nainital to the state.

Furthermore, Modi will lay the foundation stones for two major hydro-sector projects—the Song Dam Drinking Water Project, designed to supply 150 million litres per day to Dehradun, and the Jamarani Dam Multipurpose Project in Nainital, which will provide drinking water, irrigation support, and electricity generation. Other projects include electrical substations, a Women’s Sports College in Champawat, and a modern dairy plant in Nainital.

Uttarakhand, originally called Uttaranchal, was carved out of Uttar Pradesh on November 9, 2000, and officially renamed Uttarakhand in January 2007. The state’s foundation day, known as Uttarakhand Diwas, celebrates the citizens’ longstanding struggle for statehood and honours its cultural and spiritual identity. Often referred to as Devbhoomi, or the Land of the Gods, the hill state is home to revered pilgrimage sites like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, reflecting its spiritual legacy.
