- BRS leaders oppose Rajendra Nagar merger with GHMC
- Effigy of CM Revanth Reddy burnt over Hyderabad division
Hyderabad: BRS leaders staged protests against the merger of Rajendra Nagar constituency with Hyderabad Corporation. They objected to the decision and questioned the process adopted by the government.
According to the details provided, BRS members asked how suburban areas will be merged into GHMC without collecting public opinion. They said the government should first seek the views of the people. However, they alleged that the Congress government took a unilateral decision. Therefore, they intensified their protest.
During the protest, BRS leaders burnt an effigy of CM Revanth Reddy. They said the move reflects their opposition to the merger of Rajendra Nagar with Hyderabad Corporation. They also demanded that the government immediately withdraw its decision. Moreover, they insisted that public opinion must be collected before moving ahead.
Meanwhile, criticism was directed at the Congress party. The party, which once transformed Hyderabad city from a municipality into a greater one, is now accused of dividing it into three parts for political purposes. BRS leaders alleged that this division has hurt the city’s aspiration. They claimed that the decision has raised serious concerns about the future of Hyderabad.
The protestors further stated that CM Revanth Reddy had promised to make Hyderabad a global city. He had also spoken about making it the largest municipality in the country by merging suburban municipalities into a larger one. However, they alleged that he has now destroyed what exists. They claimed he has put brakes on the development of the city.
There is also criticism that dividing Hyderabad into three corporations for administrative convenience is not convincing. According to the protestors, Hyderabad has attracted investments worth lakhs of crores of rupees in world class infrastructure, IT, pharma, and real estate sectors. However, they alleged that the city has now been left without a clear shape due to the proposed changes. (Maxim News)
