Azharuddin | Hyderabad, June 18 (Maxim News): Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin has sought government approval for 20 minority degree colleges and a new Hajj House near Hyderabad airport to strengthen education and welfare infrastructure for minority communities in Telangana.
The proposals came during a high level review meeting chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister. Chairpersons of minority welfare institutions, senior officials of the Minority Welfare Department, Telangana State Waqf Board, Urdu Academy, Christian Minority Finance Corporation, and other departments attended the meeting.
Azharuddin proposed the establishment of 10 Boys Degree Colleges and 10 Girls Degree Colleges across the state. He said the move would help students graduating from Minority Residential Educational Institutions continue higher education without interruption.
The minister pointed out that minority residential institutions currently provide education up to Intermediate level. However, many students struggle to pursue graduation due to the lack of dedicated degree colleges. He said the proposed colleges would create more opportunities for minority youth, especially girls, to complete higher education and build successful careers.

Azharuddin also urged the government to speed up the completion of 37 Minority Residential School buildings that are under construction across Telangana. He informed the Deputy Chief Minister that 20 newly completed school buildings are ready for inauguration and can begin academic activities immediately.

In addition, the minister requested the release of nearly ₹130 crore towards pending bills related to Minority Welfare Department projects and institutions. He said timely payment of dues would help complete ongoing works and improve service delivery.
The minister further sought approval for constructing a permanent Hajj House Rubath at Mamidipally village near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The proposed project carries an estimated cost of ₹86 crore. He said the facility would offer better accommodation and services for Haj pilgrims from Telangana.
Another major proposal involved the construction of an Integrated Christian Complex on two acres of land at an estimated cost of ₹69 crore. The complex aims to support the social and community needs of the Christian minority population.
The meeting also reviewed pending Shadi Khana projects, Urdu Academy programmes, and plans to organize a grand Mushaira as part of the Urdu Academy Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Officials discussed issues related to Waqf Board employees, welfare measures for Imams and Muezzins, protection of Waqf properties, and the development of graveyard infrastructure across the state. The minister stressed the need for faster implementation of welfare and infrastructure initiatives to ensure inclusive development for all minority communities in Telangana.
