Golconda Blue Diamond Will Be Auctioned At Geneva On May 14
Hyderabad, April 15 (Maxim News): The rare ‘Golconda Blue‘ diamond, found in the diamond mines of the erstwhile Golconda kingdom, is set to go up for auction. The renowned Christie’s will sell the diamond on May 14 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The royal heirloom, its distinctive blue color, and its size of 23.24 carats make the ‘Golconda Blue‘ a good value, said Christie’s spokesperson Rahul Kadakia. It was revealed that the diamond, which is currently set in a ring, is expected to fetch between Rs. 300 crore to Rs. 430 crore.
According to the known history of the ‘Golconda Blue‘ diamond, it was initially owned by the Indore king Maharaja Yashwantrao Holkar-2. The diamond was set in a bracelet worn on the hand in 1923.

Later, the ‘Golconda Blue‘ was set in a necklace worn by the Queen and two other diamonds, the Indore Pierces. Notably, the Queen is wearing this necklace in a painting by the French artist Bernad Bouter, who came to Indore at that time. In 1947, the ‘Golconda Blue‘ diamond came into the hands of the famous jeweler Harry Winston.
Later, the Maharaja of Baroda bought it. After some time, it again passed into the hands of private individuals. It will be auctioned at the Four Season Hotel in Geneva.
Generally, the demand for pure blue diamonds is high. It is noteworthy that earlier, the 14.62 carat “Oppenheimer Blue’ diamond was sold for Rs. 495 crore. (Maxim News)
