RTO Check Posts | Hyderabad, August 29: The CM Revanth Reddy led Telangana State Government has announced the removal of all border check posts operated by the Transport Department, following the directives of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
The decision aims to streamline interstate transportation, reduce delays, and eliminate physical barriers for commercial vehicles.
The move comes in line with central government guidelines issued after the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, which rendered physical check posts largely redundant.
Earlier, these checkpoints served multiple purposes such as monitoring vehicle movement, enforcing transport regulations, and collecting road taxes.

However, with digital payment systems and technology-driven compliance measures now in place, the necessity for such physical checkpoints has diminished significantly.
Objective and Benefits:
According to Transport Commissioner Surendra Mohan, the abolition of check posts will:
- Improve transparency in the transportation system
- Reduce congestion and operational delays at borders
- Lower transportation costs for logistics operators
- Boost Telangana’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)
- Enhance the state’s Ease of Doing Business ranking
He stated, “The removal of these check posts will not only ensure seamless movement of vehicles but also reduce administrative overheads, thereby contributing to economic growth.”
RTO Check Posts in Telangana | Enforcement After Removal
To maintain compliance and prevent revenue loss, the government has issued specific guidelines:
- Motor Vehicles Inspectors (MVIs) and Assistant MVIs deployed at the check posts will be reassigned to district-level enforcement duties.
- Their focus will remain on checking tax evasion and ensuring road safety, under the supervision of Deputy Transport Commissioners.
- For the first six months, mobile enforcement squads will operate in border districts to educate vehicle operators and ensure all tax obligations are met before entering Telangana.
The order clearly states that all functions related to the Motor Vehicles Act, including enforcement and fee collection at the check posts, will be discontinued.
Instead, the emphasis will now shift to digital systems and on-road enforcement for greater efficiency.
This decision marks a significant step toward modernizing Telangana’s transport infrastructure, reducing operational bottlenecks, and improving logistics connectivity, thereby strengthening the state’s industrial and trade ecosystem.
