Ponnam Prabhakar Slams BJP Over “Failure-Filled” Letter to CM, Dares Modi Govt on Telangana Promises
Hyderabad, July 6 (Maxim News): Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has come down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), calling out its “audacity” in questioning the Congress-led state government through letters, despite what he called the Centre’s continued failure to support Telangana.
Responding to the newly appointed BJP State President N. Ramchander Rao’s open letter to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, in which Rao accused the Congress government of failing to fulfill election promises, Minister Ponnam issued a stinging rebuttal—calling the BJP a party with a long record of “broken promises and political deceit.”
“It is ironic that those who failed to bring even a single paisa from the Centre are now writing letters demanding accountability,” Ponnam wrote on X (formerly Twitter). He said the BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had completely betrayed the people of Telangana, failing to meet any of its commitments made over the last three elections.
BJP’s Promises vs. Reality: Ponnam’s Counterpoints
Ponnam Prabhakar accused the BJP of abandoning key pledges such as:
- Monthly pension for small and marginal farmers over 60 years of age
- Doubling of the Kisan Samman Nidhi to ₹6,000 for crop investment
- Filling 10 lakh government vacancies across India
- Depositing ₹15 lakh into every household’s account
- Creating 2 crore jobs every year
“From farmers and youth to women, SCs, STs, BCs and minorities—you have betrayed every section of society,” said Ponnam. “If we list all your failures, it would read like the Ramayana, and if we heard them all, it would echo the Mahabharata.”
‘Not a Single Rupee for Telangana’
He also questioned the contributions of BJP’s 8 MPs and two Union Ministers from Telangana, challenging them to list any significant development aid brought to the state. “What has your party done for Telangana in the last 11 years?” he asked.
Ponnam also reminded the BJP of Modi’s past comments in Parliament, allegedly criticizing the formation of Telangana, and demanded answers on unfulfilled provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. “Why haven’t you fulfilled those constitutional obligations?” he asked.
Focus on BC Quota, Local Body Polls
With 42% BC reservation emerging as a hot-button issue ahead of local body elections, Ponnam took a swipe at BJP’s sudden interest in Telangana’s internal matters. “If you are truly serious, write letters to Prime Minister Modi, not the state government that has been in office for just 18 months,” he said.
He asserted that asking a newly formed state government to deliver on every promise in such a short period reflects nothing but “blind hatred” and political desperation.
