Withdraw The Decision To Hold Bonalu: Congress Demands

Hyderabad, June 11 (Maxim News): Congress Party leaders today demanded state govt to withdraw its decision to not hold Bonalu festival in the State this year by citing spread of corona virus. Former PCC President VH termed the decision as anti-people and asked the state and alleged that the state government had taken the decision in a unilateral manner without consulting anybody.

Targeting CM KCR, he said that it was unfortunate that the CM who performed pooja at Konda Pochamma Sagar recently and allowed liquor shops , did not allow the conduct of the Bonalu in the State capital. VH made it clear that the Bonalu festival was held to pray the deities to keep seasonal diseases at bay in the state. He demanded the state government to review its decision.

On the other hand, Congress party leader and the patron of Sri Akkanna Madanna Mahankali temple G. Niranjan today demanded the state government to allow the main possession of Bonalu according to the beliefs of the people of the state. He also demanded the state government to take steps to ensure that the devotees followed social distance and other lockdown rules during the festival. He condemned the decision of the state government to urge the people of the state to conduct the Bonalu festival in their homes instead of public places. He said that the decision of the state government was not acceptable to them as it was taken after holding a meeting with the representatives of political parties and the managements of different temples of the state.

Niranjan made it clear that the people of the state were holding the boalu to get rid of corona virus through their prayers. . He told the state government that the Odisha government was holding Jagannatha Ratha Yatra at puri on June 23 of this month.(Maxim News)
